the great gatsby + grand dreams.

“And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer.”

Today I went to see The Great Gatsby and I have to say that I love the modernism that Baz Luhrmann incorporated into this classic story. I've been in love with The Great Gatsby and F. Scott Fitzgerald since I was sixteen years old. From This Side of Paradise to The Beautiful and the Damned, I'm completely and utterly convinced that Fitzgerald was a literary genius. I loved the 1974 version of the film, but this new adaptation really took the cake. I was enchanted, and not just because I viewed it at one of those fancy shmancy dine-in movie theatre while enjoying my lunch. I positively adored Leonardo DiCaprio's portrayal of Gatsby and it only served to enhance the experience for me. I love Gatsby because it's such a romanticized and honest story line of illusion, enchantment, and sweet hopeful desperation. I also love Gatsby because the 20's was a gorgeous time period. I'm captivated by the era: the music, the style, the decadence. It's a cautionary tale, but still so unbelievably glamorous.

In my head, I have this dream of one day when I'm a little older with some beautiful little babies of my own. In my dream, my babies and I dance around the living room to the sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. It's an absolutely breath-taking image and I can't wait to see it come to life. Maybe not all dreams come true, but I have quite a bit of confidence in this one.

Do y'all have a favorite novel, movie, or author that just makes you fall in love over and over?
Comment below. I'd love to hear from ya!

P.S. If anyone else has read The Great Gatsby and is looking for something new to read, I would definitely recommend Gatsby's Girl by Caroline Preston. It's a fictional novel, but based on the real story of F. Scott Fitzgerald and his first love (the supposed inspiration behind Daisy Buchanan), Ginevra Perry.
